These two shows (2-2-1991 and 2-3-1991) have been a source of some mystery for a while, mostly in part to the
fact that both shows have the exact same setlist. However, there are differences between the tapes. The key difference
is that on this show, there little tuning before Sweet Sunny South and no false start. Also, before Grateful Dawg,
the introduction differs from 02/02/91's version. The dialog is as follows: "Grisman: ...formed our own styles
because Bill Monroe, the father of bluegrass, said the best thing you can do if you learn how to play bluegrass
is then go out and get your own style. So Jerry, he started the Dead style of music. He's a pioneer in that.
Garcia: David, he started dawg music. Grisman: So now, the last time we got together we were playing bluegrass.
Now we are trying to fuse our styles. So we have a new tune tha's kind of a combination of Dead and Dawg. Or as
we call it Grateful Dawg." Also, before Dawg's Waltz, Grisman says, "This next number is a real quiet waltz.
Imagine yourself in a Parisian cafe in 1902." At this point, Jerry bursts out laughing and mutters something like
"Yeah, right!". On the 2/2 tape, David just introduces this song as "Here comes another new one, this is a waltz
here". A special thanks to Scott Schillo for all his work with these shows!....
The Jerry Site's recording information is historical in nature and is not currently being maintained. While we have future plans to fully integrate with db.etree.org, today you can find the most accurate list of Jerry Garcia recordings here
